Moc Chau plateau


 

Moc Chau plateau is located on the height of 1050m above sea level, it is about 200km to the Northwest of Hanoi following the national road no 6. This is a big plateau that spread for 80km and 25km wide with 1600 ha of grass field.
It could be said that Moc Chau is the gathering place of tourism attraction of Son La province, in which the weather is the special tourism resource that has the unique quality of Moc Chau. In this plateau, a sub-climate area of cool weather and average temperature of 20oC in summer and drier winter compared to other places.
Moc Chau is a big and most beautiful plateau in the North Vietnam. There are many beautiful landscapes like Hang Doi (Bat grotto), Son Moc Huong cave, pine forest, brassiere waterfall (Dai Yem waterfall), Phieng Luong Mount, etc and the historical vestiges  in the culture color of the local people of Mong and Dao ethnic groups, etc.
Son Moc Huong Cave (a.k.a Hang Doi Moc Chau) is the most beautiful in the West which is listed to be the national vestige. This is an artistic masterpiece, a national landscape which is given by the the nature. From the national road no 6, we climb 240 stair cases to the cave entrance. The way to the cave is shaped winding to ease the tiring of the visitors.
It is said that there was a giant dragon flying to the South China Sea. When he flew to this area, seeing the rich land and cool weather, the dragon settled in this place. When he died, he coughed out seven pearls to return the favor of the land that nurtured him. Today, we could see the curling mountain ranges surround the valley with the mysterious color. The gathering point of those seven mysterious mountains, which are said to be the seven pearls of the dragon, is the entrance of the Doi grotto. The grotto’s entrance is indeed a dragon’s mouth with the teeth above the ceiling. There are many stalactites in the cave with many shapes of elephant, lion, lizard, girl, gerbera. The middle part of the cave is raised up with a wall cover the entrance, which is said to be the room of the princess. There are many holes in the ceiling of the cave where the bat lives and maybe that is the origination for the name of Hang Doi (bat grotto). Hang Doi tourism area is the interesting place of the domestic and international visitors.
Ta Let waterfall has a beautiful nature contributed by two grandiose waterfalls of Ban Vat and Ban Lun. It is most beautiful in rainy season with the white spumes. These two waterfalls are full of water and visitors could see the waterfall roaring flowing down.
The pine forest of Ang village is the place of house on tilt beside the water line and makes it more romantic. The sound of fiddle, drum, khen and romantic folksongs and the food are deeply soaked with mountainous area.
Moc Chau Love market is only organized in one day of the year which is on 1st September; this is considered the Independence Day of the Mong ethnic group. Many couples are made on this market. There are also peoples who are not able to come to each other, but they still come here for one meeting and keeping friendship. Therefore, if a whole family comes together to the market, they still can separate to have one own way in the evening. They make an appointment to meet at a fixed place in the morning and come back. The market is crowded like festival, then couple by couple, they separate to talk, take photo or sing for each other. Moc Chau love market is the starting point for a pure love, and also the promising for the newly family made in the next season of apricot flower.
Moc Chau is not only famous for the grass field with the milk cows but also with the tea and the green terraced hill of tea tree and famous specialties which are also hard to forget whenever we come to Moc Chau.
Moc Chau is vast area of flower and grass, which is the place for the seeker of peaceful and quiet inside.
